Held at Arlene Schnitzer Hall, Portland, Oregon, USA on November 19, 1993 in the wish that a life-to-life communication between the USA and Japan could build the "Bridge of Miracles" over the vast Pacific Ocean and that its "ripples" would spread from the concert, wrap around the globe and help solve global environmental problems. "S.T.4 The Bridge" Statement of purpose

“Ten”:a Chinese concept of the firmament as the order of the universe and the determiner of the destiny of Man
“Chi” : the Earth
“Seimei” : Life
“Ai”: Love

“Ten” gave birth to “Chi”
“Chi” gave birth to “Seimei”
Then, “Seimei” multiplied between “Ten-Chi”

After life rose and fell over and over again, man eventually appeared on earth. Getting over a host of hardships, man built his own unique world and wrote its "history" in each region of the globe. Today, mankind stands at a historic crossroads where the karma of all human beings is being questioned. We are being asked by the earth whether we truly practice the fundamental principle of life or “Ai”, a way of being that is universally valid now and in the future. At this historic time we are losing sight of “Ai” and falling into egoism, as we try to escape the difficulties of the entire human race. Egoism, both brash and aggressive, is destined to perish from the earth in this critical period, when our global environment can no longer afford to sustain it.

Following the rules of “Ten”, people are finding “Ai” in the glory of nature, and working hard for a better future for our children. We are realizing that human beings can live enriching and fulfilling lives beyond the boundaries of race, nationality and ideology. We shine in the air of nature, recognize encounters with other people as hope, and seek communication with different cultures and nations in the face of further difficulties. By so doing, we are awakened to new life and a brilliant future.

The intangible power of “Ten” has brought us here to Portland, a town blessed with nature, to hold a concert by Tadamitsu Saito entitled "The Bridge." Mr. Saito once went alone into a forest, where he identified himself with an ancient tree, communicated with the breath of life in an ancient era, and found himself embraced by profound “Ai”. This experience dramatically changed his life: hi worries disappeared; his sensitivity was heightened and he realized his destiny. He recognized “Ai” as the fundamental principle of life, and began to play the piano improvisationally. With his body and soul, Mr. Saito responds directly to and communicates dynamically with Man and nature. Thus resolved, Mr. Saito has been convinced that this process can lead to a brighter tomorrow.

Encouraging many people in Japan to participate, we have organized the S.T.4 "The Bridge" concert with the cooperation of two distinguished organizations, the Audubon Society of Portland and the Earth & Spirit Council, in the hopes of unleashing problemsolving "ripples." We hope these ripples will spread from the concert, wrap around the globe and help solve global environmental problems common to all mankind.

It is our sincere wish that, at this concert, an occasion of life-to-life communication between the U.S.A. and Japan, fresh encounters will be take place, new energy to live today and tomorrow will be generated and a "Bridge of Miracles" will eventually be built over the vast Pacific Ocean.

This Improvisational concert will be performed by Mr. Tadamitsu Saito (piano), Mr. Darol Anger (violin) and Mr. Taja Bell (guitar).
