"S.T.5 the Cosmic Tree" Statement of purpose

"S.T.5 the Cosmic Tree" - The Center of Imagination for the Future

Trees- Unite the heaven and the earth,
Take nourishment from the ground,
And grow widely into space.

Trees are the center of life and imagination.

Trees have symbolized the center of the universe ever since ancient times. Remembering the "center" means the origin and beginning of all the beings, we can realize the sacred trees in each region of the world are the light shining upon us today and tomorrow.

Now we live in a world of chaos and confusion where our center can easily be lost. The more we try to move ahead, the more involved we will be in a host of new problems. But there is hope. Apparently weak, the life of people today is beginning to sense that dynamic energy, physical and mental, will be generated in and among people to solve various problems all at once. More and more people have started to show their own personalities, jointly tackle common issues, and anticipate a new life will soon sprout up to mark the dawn of a new era. It is increasingly important for both each individual and the entire world to recognize what our own life truly demands.

Consciousness was born in the process of life and has come into human memory. This consciousness has deprived many people of rich imaginative potentials. Through his body, Mr. Tadamitsu Saito responds directly to and communicates dynamically with people's life and natural environment. Meeting deep inside his center, Mr. Saito himself, people and nature mutually accept one another, change and grow together. His life functions to help every one of us realize a state of love in our individual life and find each own center to live on. The border between life and consciousness fades away, and new life and consciousness are fostered to open the new future when they are united. Mr. Saito expresses this life process on the piano, synthesizers and other musical instruments.

In this period of dramatic changes, we are still slow in finding solutions and making progress. When egoism prevails and personality is restrained, we cannot envision our future if our sensitivity remains dull and our rationality loses sight of freedom and truth. However, a great amount of energy is gushing out of the center of the world and nature. Realizing the energy responds to the center of each individual life, we can see new opportunities emerging everywhere from personal life to political and business fields: the opportunities unprecedented in our history for cultivating our future. As new imagination sprouts up, our sensitivity and rationality begin to shine. Without imagination, creativity would never be born.

The S.T.5 Executive Committee has planned this concert to share and recognize, with many people, new possibilities growing in the life of every human being. The Committee is convinced that the S.T.5 concert will develop the possibilities into lasting vital energy for today and tomorrow and truly hopes that the global environment will be realized as soon as possible where our future generations can live beyond the boundaries of races, religions, ideologies and creeds. The concert will be performed solo by Mr. Tadamitsu Saito on the piano and synthesizers, at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday September 11, 1994.

The S.T.5 Executive Committee intends to send the message, "S.T.5 The Cosmic Tree: The Center of Imagination for the Future" to all over the world and expects to receive messages from the world. The members of the Committee are motivated to make this concert a truly global experience and inspiration to share with the world.

Following is the message from Dr. Peter M. Senge, Director, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA

Thank you for your very kind invitation to share some thoughts as you prepare for your very important gathering on June 12. I am honored by the request, and humbled by not having any idea what I should say. I hope the following is appropriate.

I believe that humankind stands at an epochal crossroads. The way of being that has allowed us to climb to the top of the animal hierarchy leads forward into an abyss. We have gained unimaginable power in influencing our environment. Yet, it is this very power which now poses an unprecedented threat. All of the true crisis that we face in the world today are “systemic”, they have no simple causes, there is no one to blame, there is no villain to fight. They are a by-product of complex interdependencies, which we have collectively brought into being. For the first time in our history as a species we have the power to either advance or destroy the species.

There is another way forward, a way which few of us know from experience but many sense as a possibility. It is the way of love and compassion, based in a deep appreciation of the interdependence of all life. It is a way based upon rediscovering the “primacy of the whole”, the knowledge that who we are is inseparable from the web that interconnects all. This knowledge must permeate all of humankind’s institutions, especially those, which have the greatest impact on our present life, namely business, public education, and government. This knowledge must transform the way we shape policy and practice. It is too important to leave to intellectuals. It must become the work of practical women and men everywhere. I send you my heart and honor your efforts.
